Mandatory security, video surveillance and metal detectors to be introduced in Ukrainian schools<\/h2>\n

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine has defined a list of security measures that may be applied in general secondary education institutions.<\/p>\n

The relevant Order No. 28 was approved by 8 January 2026<\/strong>, Education Ombudsman Nadiya Leshchyk said. The document regulates both physical security and the use of technical security equipment in schools.<\/p>\n

What security systems will appear in schools<\/h3>\n

In particular, they can be used in educational institutions:<\/p>\n

    an emergency call system for the police<\/strong>;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    video surveillance<\/strong>;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    metal detectors for inspection<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    These measures are aimed at improving the safety of students and education staff.<\/p>\n

    Restrictions on video surveillance<\/h3>\n

    At the same time, the order establishes clear privacy rules.<\/p>\n

    Cameras it is forbidden to post<\/strong> in places of personal use, in particular in toilets and changing rooms.<\/p>\n

    It is also stressed that security measures should not cause physical or mental suffering to children.<\/p>\n

    The issue of school safety has become particularly relevant during a full-scale war and the growing threats to civilian infrastructure.<\/p>\n
