Yermak visits SZR: sources do not rule out preparation of documents for leaving the country
Former head of the Presidential Office Andriy Yermak today spent about 45 minutes at the central office of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine (SZRU), after which the intelligence service began checking his cover documents, which, according to sources, may indicate preparations for a possible border crossing. This was reported by the media outlet ZN.UA.
What we know
Yermak arrived at the SZRU building in an armoured car and stayed there for about 45 minutes.
Immediately after his departure, the head of the SZRU Oleg Ivashchenko summoned the head of the department responsible for the cover documents, who is considered to be Yermak's «man» in the service.
According to the publication's sources, the likely purpose of the visit could have been to prepare documents that would allow Yermak to travel abroad.
The context around Yermak
Although Yermak was dismissed from his post as head of the Presidential Office on 28 November, he still formally holds at least 10 positions in the government, including in the national security and NSDC structures.
At the same time, criminal proceedings are ongoing against him in the Midas case, a major corruption scandal in the energy sector. According to sources, following last week's searches by NABU and SAPO, Yermak is under threat of a preventive measure, and the summons to the SZRU may be related to preparations for possible travel or leaving the country.
What is officially known
Neither the SZRU nor Yermak himself has yet given an official confirmation or explanation of the purpose of the visit and the summons of the officer responsible for the cover documents. No comment was received by the time of publication.
