Europe is preparing for a new scenario without the US: what is changing for the world

European leaders are increasingly discussing a scenario in which the continent will have to ensure their own safety on their own without full reliance on the United States. Such discussions have intensified following a series of statements by US politicians, as well as the protracted war in Ukraine and global instability.

Why Europe is talking about a «new reality»

• reconsider the attitude to EU enlargement;

• return the subject continental security to the centre of politics.

This is increasingly recognised in Brussels:
Without a strong Ukraine, there will be no secure Europe.

If Europe really becomes more independent in the military and political sense, it will change the global balance of power:

• The US will be able to focus more on Asia;

• China will get a new strong competitor;

• Russia will face a tougher and more united Europe.
