Three servicemen detained for attempted sale of 500 kg of explosives

The colonel and two servicemen were detained during an operation by the Prosecutor General's Office and special forces - they are charged with attempting to sell a large batch of explosives and ammunition.

The Office of the Prosecutor General reported the detention of three military officers during a special operation aimed at exposing an attempt to illegally sell military munitions. A large consignment of explosives and ammunition was seized during the arrest.

According to the investigation, during the operation, more than 500 kg of plastic explosives, 22 plastid briquettes, several grenades and detonating cord. The estimated value of the seized goods is about 88 thousand US dollars.

During the investigation, law enforcement officers also seized other items from the suspects' places of residence:

  • firearms;

  • over 2 thousand rounds of ammunition of different calibre;

  • grenades and shots from a grenade launcher.

Investigative documents record a wide range of evidence indicating preparation for the illegal sale of large quantities of explosives and ammunition.


Qualification and follow-up

The Office of the Prosecutor General reported that the individuals have already been notified of suspicion under the relevant articles of the Criminal Code. The case is being conducted in coordination with the National Police, the Security Service of Ukraine and the Military Prosecutor's Office.

After completion of the initial investigative actions, it is planned to serve a notice of suspicion of large-scale illegal manufacture, storage and sale of explosives and ammunition; the issue of choosing a preventive measure and bringing to criminal responsibility is also being considered.

The seizure of such a large quantity of explosive materials and ammunition prevented a significant threat to public safety. According to experts, illicit trafficking in such munitions can lead to serious consequences if used or falling into the hands of third parties.

Law enforcement agencies are continuing their investigation, establishing the supply channels and the range of people involved in the preparation and attempted sale.
