Zelenskyy warns of Russia's preparations for a new massive strike in the coming days
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukrainian intelligence is recording Russia's preparations for a new massive strike that could take place in the coming days.
According to him, the enemy plans to use drones to deplete air defences and then launch missile strikes on critical infrastructure. A special emphasis is placed on using cold weather as an additional factor of pressure on the energy system and civilians.
The President called on citizens to closely monitor air raid warnings, follow safety rules and not ignore shelters.
Details
According to intelligence, Russian forces:
preparing a combined attack using strike UAVs and missiles;
trying to overload the air defence system by launching drones in waves;
expect complications in the operation of the energy infrastructure due to severe frosts;
can target energy, transport and logistics facilities.
Ukraine's air defence forces have been put on high alert. The authorities stress the need to conserve electricity during peak hours and be prepared for possible temporary restrictions.
Context.
Russia has been systematically using massive missile and drone attacks as a tool of pressure on Ukraine, trying to undermine energy stability, the economy and the morale of the society. In winter, such attacks traditionally pose a greater risk to heating and electricity supply systems.
Ukraine, with the support of its EU and NATO partners, is strengthening its air defence, expanding its energy resilience capabilities, and preparing contingency scenarios to respond to possible attacks. International partners have repeatedly emphasised their readiness to continue military and financial assistance to Kyiv.
