Zelenskyy on his conversation with the US delegation: Ukraine needs a real and decent peace

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that he had a «very serious conversation» with a significant US delegation today. According to him, the American side conveyed points of their plan to end the war, which contains the US vision of the path to peace.

«Ukraine needs peace. And real peace - one that will not be broken by a third invasion. A decent peace - with respect for our independence and sovereignty,» Zelenskyy stressed.

The President noted that he had emphasised to the American side principled positions for Ukraine, and also agreed on joint work between the teams.

«Let's not make any harsh statements»

Zelenskyy stressed that Ukraine is committed to «clear and honest work» with the US and European partners.

He stressed that Kyiv would not allow Ukraine to be presented as a party that allegedly «disrupts diplomacy»:

«We will do everything to prevent anyone in the world from saying that we are the ones disrupting the diplomatic path.».

Contacts with European leaders

The President also said that in recent days, active diplomatic interaction with Europe has been ongoing:

• held a conversation with the President of Finland By Alexander Stubb;

• is in constant contact with the President of France;

• plans to talk to the US President in the coming days Donald Trump.

Zelenskyy stressed that he hoped for a decisive role for the United States:

«We are aware that America's strength can really bring peace, and we don't want to lose that.».

«Russia has no desire for peace»

The President stressed that Russia did not demonstrate sincere readiness for a peaceful settlement:

«They are trying to postpone sanctions and buy more time for war.».

At the same time, Zelenskyy said that it is the United States that can force Russia to have a serious conversation about ending the conflict.
