Ukraine plans to produce up to 800 interceptors per day

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced ambitious plans for the Ukrainian defence industry and the Armed Forces: by the end of 2025 Ukraine intends to produce 500-800 interceptor drones per day.

«By the end of next year, we plan to reach the capacity of 500-800 interceptor drones daily,» the Head of State said, stressing the importance of rapid production scaling to protect airspace and counter massive enemy attacks.

«Flamingo» and «Ruta» in combat use

Zelenskyy also said that this year, Ukraine intends to conduct significant strikes on targets in the territory of the Russian Federation with Flamingo and Ruta missiles«, adding that These weapons have already been used in combat situations.
According to him, work on such systems is ongoing, and their operational use is part of the country's strategy to strengthen its long-range capabilities.

The plan to replenish the fleet is up to 250 aircraft

In addition to the development of missile and unmanned systems, Zelenskyy also mentioned plans for aviation: Ukraine aims to get up to 250 new combat aircraft, In particular F-16, Gripen and Rafale. According to him, this is part of a long-term programme to strengthen the capabilities of the SAR and guarantee security for the future.

Context and meaning

  • The mass production of interceptors should strengthen defences against drone and missile attacks, reducing pressure on civilian infrastructure and military facilities.

  • The combat use of the Flamingo and Ruta means that Ukraine is developing its own long-range capabilities, which could affect the balance of deterrence.

  • The purchase of hundreds of fighter jets is a strategic goal that requires time, international agreements and significant investment, but if implemented will significantly strengthen the air power of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
