Siyarto says Zelensky has «lost touch with reality»
Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Siyarto said that the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy «lost touch with reality», commenting on his words about the possibility of Ukraine's accession to the European Union without the consent of Budapest.
«This will be decided by Hungarians together with citizens of 26 other EU countries, and Hungarians have already decided: we do not want strategic integration with Ukraine, we do not want them to become members of the EU and NATO, and I would add that they will not become», said Siyarto.
Budapest's reaction to Zelensky's statement
Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in his address stated that Ukraine will become an EU member - «with or without Orban», The Ukrainian government has also been hinting at the possibility of circumventing the blockade by Hungary.
Sijjarto replied that such statements «indicate a loss of contact with reality» and «do not contribute to the dialogue between the countries».
«Such words only deepen misunderstandings. The Ukrainian leadership must return to a realistic vision of the situation, not political slogans,» the Hungarian minister added.
Context of the dispute between Kyiv and Budapest
Relations between Ukraine and Hungary remain tense due to the position of the government of Viktor Orban, which blocks European decisions on financing military aid to Kyiv and expanding sanctions against Russia.
