Zelenskyy announces new Ukrainian award for rescue groups
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced the establishment of a new state award to be presented to communities that have proved to be saviours, brave souls and pillars of support for the country during the war. He announced this on his official Telegram channel.
Details of the application
According to the President, it is Ukrainian people and communities who defend the state every day, help the defence, support those who have the hardest time and bring victory closer.
Zelenskyy stressed that the new award will be dedicated to hromadas that:
help the frontline;
accept and support internally displaced persons;
facilitate business relocation;
are actively involved in defence and humanitarian initiatives.
«We are establishing a new Ukrainian award - an award specifically for hromadas, rescuing hromadas, brave hromadas,» Zelenskyy said.
Why you need it
The President explained that this award is intended to emphasise the importance of local self-government and active participation of communities in the defence of the country. For the first time, such awards will be presented this year.
Context.
Local Government Day is celebrated in Ukraine on 7 December. Amid a full-scale war, the role of communities has grown significantly - they are the ones who ensure critical processes, from humanitarian aid to defence initiatives and the reception of IDPs.
