Massive Russian attack on Ukraine - six dead, including two children

Russia attacked Ukraine overnight with drones and missiles. According to President Zelensky, six people were killed, including two children, and 17 others were injured.

Six killed and 17 injured in massive Russian strikes in Ukraine

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported new civilian casualties as a result of massive combined attack by russia on the night of 22 October.

«As of now, six people have been killed, including two children. 17 people are injured. Mostly the energy sector was hit, but there were also numerous hits on residential buildings,» Zelensky said.


A blow to the energy sector and residential neighbourhoods

According to the President, the enemy attacked energy infrastructure across the country in an attempt to cause large-scale disruptions to the power grid.
At the same time, some of the blows fell on to residential areas, where Ukrainian civilians lived.

The most affected are Kyiv, Odesa, Chernihiv, Dnipro, Kirovohrad, Poltava, Vinnytsia, Zaporizhzhia, Cherkasy and Sumy regions.


Massive attack with drones and missiles

On the night of 22 October, Russia used Shahed kamikaze drones, as well as ballistic and cruise missiles.
The air raid lasted more than three hours, Air defence systems hit most of the targets, The shells hit critical infrastructure, but some of them were not destined for the area.

The energy sector reports Large-scale damage to gas distribution stations, substations and thermal power plants, and in some regions power outages and water supply interruptions.


Tragedies among civilians

Among the dead are two children, Zelensky said.
In some settlements, the entire destroyed residential buildings, are underway search and rescue operations.

«Each such strike demonstrates the true essence of Russian terror - strikes against people, against homes, against light and warmth,» the President stressed.


Government response

All services are working to restore power supply and eliminate the consequences.
The Ministry of Energy and the State Emergency Service sent additional crews to Kyiv, Poltava and Cherkasy regions.
Local authorities are preparing heating points and backup power supply.
