Zelenskyy talks with US representatives about preparing a document on rebuilding Ukraine
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his team held a video conference with representatives of the United States government. During the call, the parties discussed the preparation of a comprehensive document that will define the key areas of rebuilding, modernisation and economic recovery of Ukraine.
Currently, they are discussing the coordination of approaches to implementing projects in the infrastructure, energy, and defence sectors, as well as attracting long-term investments.
What was discussed
- A model for rebuilding Ukraine after the war's destruction.
- Mechanisms for engaging the US private sector.
- Investment guarantees and risk insurance for US companies.
- Priority projects in the regions that have suffered the most damage.
- Preparation of a joint document that will become the basis for long-term programmes.
Zelenskyy stressed the importance of the approach to recovery being strategic and systemic, and funding should be transparent and aimed at modernising the country, not just repairing what has been destroyed.
Context.
- The United States remains Ukraine's key partner in security and energy sustainability.
- Earlier, Washington had already supported the creation of separate investment mechanisms for reconstruction.
- The preparation of this document could form the basis for a long-term recovery programme similar to the Marshall Plan.
