Zelensky calls on the US to extend sanctions to the entire Russian oil sector

The President of Ukraine stressed that partial sanctions do not deter Russia from aggression, as oil exports remain the main source of funding for the war.

Zelensky calls on the US to extend sanctions against Russian oil

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy addressed the US President Donald Trump with a call Extend sanctions to the entire Russian oil sector.
This is reported by the The Guardian, citing sources in the Ukrainian delegation.

Zelenskyy stressed that the current restrictions, which are aimed only at companies such as «Rosneft and Lukoil», are not sufficient to actually reduce Russian budget revenues.

«Russia continues to finance the war with petrodollars. In order to stop the aggression, sanctions must be complete, without exceptions and circumvention schemes,» Zelenskyy said.


Oil as the main source of war

According to analysts, more than 35% of the Russian budget revenues are revenues from the export of oil and oil products.
Despite the current restrictions, Russia continues to sell energy through third countries - In particular, China, India and Turkey.

Ukraine insists on creating a a unified sanctions regime between the US, EU and G7 countries, that would cover the entire oil industry of russia, including transport, insurance and banking structures that serve these exports.


US reaction

The Trump administration said that consider additional restrictions against Russian energy companies, but have so far refrained from making any concrete decisions.
According to US officials, the main task is to prevent oil prices from rising in the global market.
