Russia is preparing for a major war in Europe - Zelensky
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Russia is purposefully preparing for a major war against Europe. According to him, Russia plans to achieve full military capability to deploy large-scale hostilities between 2029 and 2030.
Zelenskyy stressed that these years could be critical for the security of the entire European continent if partners do not strengthen defence capabilities and increase support for Ukraine.
Details of the application
The President stressed that the Russian military-industrial complex is increasing production, modernising weapons and increasing mobilisation resources.
According to him, the Kremlin is working to be ready for a direct confrontation with NATO and the EU, and the attack on Ukraine is only part of a broader strategy of revanchism.
Zelenskyy also noted that Western partners should take this perspective into account when formulating defence policy and planning long-term assistance to Kyiv.
Context.
European intelligence agencies have previously warned of Russia's plans to build up resources and the potential risk of a direct clash with NATO in the coming years.
Against this backdrop, EU countries and the Alliance are increasing their defence budgets, stepping up military exercises and working to strengthen the defence of their eastern flank.
