No road overhaul in 2026: no funds are provided in the budget

In 2026, there are actually no plans to carry out major road repairs in Ukraine due to a lack of funding. This was announced by the head of the State Agency for Infrastructure Recovery Sergey Sukhomlin.

How much money is provided

According to the official, only about 15% of the real need.

In such circumstances, priority will be given:

• maintaining roads in passable condition;

• emergency damage elimination;

• maintaining critical transport infrastructure.

Full-scale overhauls are not currently being considered.

Reasons for the funding shortfall

The war and the need to allocate resources for defence and restoration of critical facilities remain the main factors limiting spending.

Because of this, the road industry is operating in the minimal funding, The company's operations are focused on the most essential work.

Context.

The state of road infrastructure in Ukraine has deteriorated significantly during the years of full-scale war due to:

• destruction of transport routes in the frontline regions;

• Intensive military logistics workload;

• limited capacity of the state budget.

A return to large-scale road overhaul programmes is possible only after the financial and security situation stabilises.
