The world is on the verge of a chocolate crisis: scientists warn that chocolate could disappear by 2050. The main cocoa producers in Ghana and Côte d'Ivoire are already suffering from heat and drought, which has dramatically affected harvests and prices.
Climate change threatens the chocolate industry
According to «GEC», global climate change is becoming a critical factor for cocoa production. In Ghana and Côte d'Ivoire, which produce up to 70% of the world's cocoa, rising temperatures and reduced rainfall have already led to a decline in yields. Scientists predict that by 2050, up to half of the land suitable for cocoa production could become unusable.
Cocoa prices break records
In response to the decline in production, cocoa prices have risen by more than 400%. This is already having an impact on the market: producers are having to reduce the size of chocolate bars to keep prices down for consumers. Experts warn that chocolate may become a luxury in the coming years.

Given current trends, chocolate may disappear from store shelves or become significantly more expensive. Consumers are advised to pay attention to the composition of products and prepare for changes in their usual tastes.
