IMF agrees $8.1bn programme for Ukraine for four years
The International Monetary Fund has approved a new financial support programme for Ukraine totalling USD $8.1 billion. The programme is designed for 2026-2029.
First tranche
It is expected that Ukraine will receive the first tranche of USD $1.5 billion in the near future after completion of the necessary procedures.
The financing should support the macro-financial stability of the state amid the war and a significant budgetary burden.
Terms of the programme
The four-year programme envisages further cooperation between Ukraine and the IMF in this area:
fiscal policy;
financial sector reforms;
structural changes in the economy.
The specific parameters of the commitments will be determined in the course of further revisions of the programme.
Context.
Ukraine continues to rely on international financial assistance to cover its budget deficit and support its economy in the face of a full-scale war.
Cooperation with the IMF traditionally opens the way to additional financing from other international partners.
