The United States has allocated $25 million to support programmes to return and rehabilitate Ukrainian children who were forcibly deported to Russia. The assistance is aimed at tracking the whereabouts of children and rehabilitating those who have been returned.
The US announces financial support
On 26 March, the US Department of State announced $25 million in funding for programmes aimed at Return and rehabilitation of Ukrainian children, who were forcibly deported to Russia.
The funds will be used in two main areas: tracking deported children and supporting rehabilitation projects for returned children.
Areas of assistance use
According to the US State Department, the funding will cover:
- programmes to track the whereabouts of deported children;
- Supporting the Government of Ukraine and local partners in the rehabilitation of returned children.
The programmes will be implemented in cooperation with the Ukrainian authorities and trusted local organisations.
Context.
According to the Ukrainian authorities, Russia has illegally deported thousands of Ukrainian children since the beginning of the full-scale war. The return and rehabilitation of these children is a priority for the Ukrainian and international community.
