Six decommissioned CHP and TPPs to be transferred to Ukraine

Ukraine will receive at least six decommissioned thermal power plants and thermal power plants from European partners. This was announced by the Minister of Energy of Ukraine Denis Shmygal after the meeting of the International Energy Agency.

What we know

According to the Minister, Ukraine has reached agreements with a number of countries on the transfer of energy equipment. This includes cooperation with Latvia, Austria, Finland, Croatia, France and Germany.

«The equipment will be moved and quickly installed. We are talking about at least six decommissioned thermal power plants and thermal power plants that will be transferred to Ukraine,» Shmyhal said.

Why does Ukraine need it?

The transferred equipment is to be promptly delivered and integrated into the Ukrainian power grid. This is expected to help:

  • strengthen the country's energy resilience;

  • to compensate for the damage caused by Russian attacks;

  • prepare for peak loads.
