Russian attack on the «Avangard» poultry farm»
Russian forces carried out an air strike using guided bombs on a poultry farm belonging to the «Avangard» agricultural holding in the Kherson region. A large-scale fire broke out on the premises following the strike. According to local sources, the facility has suffered significant damage, and the scale of the blaze indicates serious damage to its production facilities.
Economic consequences
Preliminary estimates suggest that the economic losses from the latest attack could run into hundreds of millions of dollars. The full extent of the damage is still being assessed. The poultry farm is part of the Avangard agricultural holding and is considered one of the largest egg producers in Europe.
A second attack on the company
This is the second time the factory has been targeted by Russian forces. During the occupation of the Kherson region in 2022, the plant was almost completely destroyed. At the time, the losses were estimated at approximately $330 million, and the death of around 4 million chickens led to a sharp decline in egg and chicken meat production and was one of the factors behind rising prices on the Ukrainian market.
Why it matters
Attacks on large agricultural enterprises affect not only the economy but also the country’s food security. If reports of the scale of the current damage are confirmed, restoring production may require significant investment and take a long time.
