Ukraine is preparing to rebuild hromadas' energy system for next winter
The Ukrainian authorities are preparing decisions on the restructuring and modernisation of energy supply to communities based on the experience of the current heating season. This was announced by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
What preparing for the next winter entails
According to the Head of State, a corresponding action plan for the new heating season has been prepared:
will be considered at the national level;
should take into account the experience of cities and communities that have managed to get through the winter in a stable manner;
will include updating approaches to energy security on the ground.
The President stressed that the positive practices of individual communities should be scaled up across the country.
Lessons from the heating season
Zelenskyy noted that those cities and communities that avoided serious internal energy crises this winter have demonstrated effective solutions that can become the basis for nationwide changes.
At the same time, some problematic situations that arose in large cities showed the need for systemic renewal of the energy infrastructure.
Context.
The issue of energy sustainability remains a critical one for Ukraine:
Russia's regular attacks on energy infrastructure;
high load on heating and power grids in winter;
the need to decentralise energy sources in communities.
Preparing for the next heating season is seen as a key element of state security.
