Russia is preparing information ground for a radiation provocation
Russia may organise a radiation incident on the territory of Ukraine with the subsequent accusation of the Ukrainian side. This is stated in a new report by the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
Analysts believe that this scenario could be part of a broader information campaign by Moscow.
Details of the assessment
The ISW notes that Russian rhetoric and information signals may indicate that the ground is being prepared for a potential provocation.
The report emphasises that such actions may be aimed at discrediting Ukraine in the international arena and influencing Western support for Kyiv.
Context.
This is not the first time experts have warned of the risks of nuclear or radiation provocations in the context of Russia's war against Ukraine.
At the same time, there is currently no evidence of a specific incident being prepared - the ISW assessment is precautionary.
