Russian drone hits Panamanian-flagged tanker in Black Sea: one wounded

A Russian attack drone attacked a Panamanian-flagged civilian tanker in the Black Sea as it was waiting to enter a port to load vegetable oil. One crew member was injured as a result of the hit, and a fire broke out on board.

The incident was reported by Oleksiy Kuleba, Vice Prime Minister for Reconstruction of Ukraine.

According to him, the crew managed to localise the fire, and the victim received medical assistance.


The second vessel also came under attack

In addition to the tanker, another civilian vessel flying the flag of San Marino was hit. It was leaving the port with a cargo of corn.

According to preliminary data:

  • No one was injured;

  • The vessel maintained its course and continued to move;

  • the damage does not threaten the safety of the crew.


Context.

Russia has systematically attacked civilian port infrastructure and merchant vessels in the Black Sea in an attempt to disrupt Ukrainian agricultural exports and put pressure on international maritime logistics.

Ukraine has repeatedly stressed that such strikes are a violation of international humanitarian law and pose risks to global food security, particularly for the countries of the Middle East, Africa and Europe.
