Trump says he asked Putin not to shell Ukrainian cities because of frost - and he allegedly agreed

The US President announced a personal appeal to the Russian leadership amid severe cold weather. There has been no official confirmation from the other side.

President of the United States Donald Trump said he had personally appealed to the Russian president Vladimir Putin with a request to refrain from shelling Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities for a week due to severe frosts - and, according to him, he received an agreement.

Links to weather conditions

According to Trump, the reason for the appeal was the extremely low temperatures in Ukraine. He stressed that the weather conditions were «extremely cold» and the frosts were record-breaking.

«It is unusually cold there now, the temperature is breaking all records. The weather is just terrible,» he said, commenting on his initiative.

There are no official statements from Russia yet

As of the time of publication, the Russian side has not made any official statements about such an agreement. There is also no independent confirmation of such a conversation or an agreed “one-week moratorium” on strikes.

Ukrainian officials have not reported any changes in the threat level.

The issue of shelling and the weather factor

The topic of the impact of weather conditions on the intensity of hostilities is periodically raised in public statements by politicians and military analysts. However, practical decisions are usually confirmed only by actual changes on the ground.

Experts urge to rely on official messages from the defence forces and warning systems regardless of political statements.
