Iran calls talks with US a «good start»
Iran has described the first round of indirect talks with the United States as a «good start» and reaffirmed its intention to continue contacts to reduce tensions and prevent a possible military conflict. This was reported by Bloomberg.
Iran's position
According to the Iranian media, Tehran's main task at the initial stage was to assess the seriousness of the US side's intentions for a diplomatic settlement.
Iran insists that the talks should address exclusively nuclear programme, without expanding the agenda to include other regional security issues.
US position
The US side, according to preliminary signals, believes that the discussion should also cover this:
Iran's missile programme;
Tehran's support for armed groups in the region.
Official Washington is now did not comment publicly the results of the first round of negotiations.
Analysts' estimates
Experts remain cautiously sceptical about the prospects of reaching a full agreement, given the deep differences between the parties and the previous experience of failed agreements.
