Slovak Prime Minister's adviser resigns after Epstein emails are made public

According to the Slovak newspaper Actuality, Miroslav Lajcak resigned from his post as National Security Adviser to the Prime Minister of Slovakia. The decision was made after the publication of materials that mentioned his correspondence with Jeffrey Epstein.

Initially, Lajcak publicly denied any connection with Epstein and stated that he did not understand how his name could have appeared in the relevant files. However, later he actually admitted the existence of the correspondence, stressing that all contacts were, in his words, «informal, frivolous and without any real content».

Prime Minister's reaction

Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Fico said he accepted Lajcak's resignation. According to the head of government, the situation around the advisor had become so public that it was impossible for him to continue in office.

Fico did not comment in detail on the content of the correspondence, but stressed that national security issues require an impeccable reputation of officials.
