«Good news» on war possible in coming weeks - US special envoy

Special Representative of the President of the United States Steve Witkoff has admitted that there may be «good news» about the prospects for ending Russia's war against Ukraine in the coming weeks. He said this in a commentary to journalists.

What Witkoff said.

According to the US official, diplomatic efforts could yield results in a relatively short time.

He also did not rule out the possibility of holding a summit between the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the head of the Kremlin Vladimir Putin in the near future.

«You know, everybody throws around the word “dignity”. But what does dignity give you when there's so much killing going on?... They don't look like they really want to fight each other, and I don't think they do,» said Vitkoff.

Context.

The statement was made against the backdrop of intensified diplomatic contacts around possible negotiations to end the war. At the same time, the official positions of Kyiv and Moscow on the terms of peace remain significantly different.

Experts stress that any negotiations are possible only if there are real security guarantees for Ukraine.
