Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed the different approaches of Ukraine and the United States to assessing Russia's readiness to end the war. Ukraine insists on increasing pressure on Moscow, while the United States believes that the Kremlin is supposedly seeking peace.
Zelensky's statement
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that Ukraine does not see Russia's readiness to end the war. According to him, Kyiv insists on putting additional pressure on Moscow to force it to peace.
Zelenskyy stressed that the US position is different. Washington believes that Russian President Vladimir Putin is supposedly committed to ending the war, so it sees no need for additional pressure.
Positions of the parties
Zelenskyy noted that Ukraine and the US have different views on Russia's intentions. He emphasised: “We know that Putin does not want to end the war. We are asking for additional pressure to make him want to. And America believes that he does, and why do we need extra pressure if Russia shows that they are also ready for peace?”.
The President added that different views on Russia's intentions are not a problem. The main thing is that Ukraine insists on the need to increase international pressure.
