Ukrainian mobile operators will completely switch off 3G by 1 January 2031. The government has provided for a long transition period to ensure that Ukrainians do not feel the change. 4G will remain the basis for the introduction of 5G.
Ukraine sets deadline for complete 3G switch-off
Today, the Deputy Head of the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine Pribytko said that all mobile operators in the country have agreed to a clear deadline: 3G will be completely switched off by 1 January 2031. According to the official, the long transition period was chosen on purpose to ensure that consumers do not experience any inconvenience due to the abandonment of the old communication standard.
Transition to 5G
Prybytko also stressed that the introduction of 5G does not mean the disappearance of 4G. On the contrary, 4G will become the basis for the deployment of new fifth-generation networks. Ukrainian operators are already preparing for a large-scale transition by gradually upgrading their infrastructure and informing subscribers about the upcoming changes.
