Russia presents upgraded UMPB-5 air bomb
Russian military presents updated guided bomb UMPB-5, capable of hitting targets at a much greater distance than previous versions. This was reported by the Defence Blog.
Development details
According to available information, the range of the basic version of the munition has been increased by approximately 40-50 km, The newly developed system enables targets at distances of up to 160 km.
Modification UMPB-5R received turbojet engine, The maximum range of application can be up to up to 200 km.
The munition is navigated by a combination of satellite and inertial systems, in particular the «Kometa-M12», This should provide more accurate guidance.
Context.
The extension of the range of guided bombs is part of a general trend in the development of weapons that allow strikes to be carried out out of range of air defence of the enemy.
For Ukraine, this means an increased role for long-range air defence and electronic warfare systems capable of countering new types of guided munitions.
