CEC refuses to use online voting due to risks

Elections are not possible in the temporarily occupied territories, but the state will look for mechanisms to implement the voting rights of citizens - in Ukraine, abroad and for the military.

CEC: online and postal voting not planned due to risk of interference

Online and postal voting not planned due to the threat of external interference. This was stated by the head of the Central Election Commission.

Key positions of the CEC

  • Temporarily occupied territories. It is impossible to hold elections there. At the same time, the state will guarantee voting rights to citizens who can come to the territory controlled by Ukraine.

  • Ukrainians in Europe. The opening of the additional polling stations near diplomatic missions, as the facilities available at embassies and consulates will not be sufficient.

  • Military personnel. To ensure voting, they can use experience of the 2019 elections, when thousands of soldiers voted in the ATO area.

  • Updating voter data. From. January the possibility of online updating of personal data in the State Register of Voters - this option was suspended from 2022 for security reasons.

Context.

The CEC emphasises that security risks remain a key factor in making decisions on voting formats. The priority is protection of the electoral process from cyberattacks and foreign influence, while ensuring maximum access to the exercise of electoral rights.
