«Bank Security Service» turned out to be a fake - call centre is closed

Law enforcers have shut down a large-scale fraudulent call centre that defrauded Ukrainian citizens. This was reported by the Prosecutor's Office.

According to the investigation, the scheme involved about 60 workplaces.

How the scheme worked

The defendants called Ukrainians and introduced themselves as bank security officers.

Next up:

  • convinced to install special apps on their phones or computers;

  • gained remote access to devices;

  • took possession of bank card data;

  • transferred the victims' funds to controlled accounts.

As a result, people actually gave fraudsters access to their finances.

What is known about the investigation

Investigative actions are ongoing to identify all those involved and the full range of victims.

Law enforcers emphasise that bank employees never ask to install third-party applications or provide confidential data.

In Ukraine, there has been a recent increase in telephone fraud, where criminals disguise themselves as employees of banks or government agencies.

Citizens are urged to be careful not to share their devices and bank accounts with unauthorised persons.
