UAH 71 million «scheme» in heat supply exposed in Ivano-Frankivsk

Law enforcers exposed a large-scale corruption scheme in the heat supply sector in Ivano-Frankivsk, which caused losses of UAH 71 million. This was reported by law enforcement agencies.

Among the defendants in the case are the founder and managers of enterprises engaged in the production and transportation of heat for approximately 25% city population.


Details of the case

According to the investigation, the scheme consisted of artificially inflating tariffs, Underestimation of real heat losses and Including excess profits in financial statements. This allowed companies to make unjustified profits at the expense of consumers and the local budget.

Law enforcement officers established that the fraud was systematic and covered key stages of tariff formation and payments for heat supply.

Currently five people were served with notices of suspicion. They are charged with crimes in the field of economic and official activities. If found guilty, the defendants face up to 12 years' imprisonment with confiscation of property.

Investigative actions are ongoing, the full range of persons involved and possible additional episodes of offences are being established.


Context.

The issue of heat and energy tariffs remains one of the most sensitive for Ukrainian society, especially in the context of war, resource shortages and growing pressure on the utility infrastructure.

The exposure of such schemes is part of the government's broader policy of fighting corruption, protecting consumers and stabilising the economy and energy sector.
