Ex-deputy chief of police to be tried in Prykarpattia region for embezzlement of UAH 2.7 million from family of fallen soldier

Prosecutors of the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Prosecutor's Office sent to court an indictment against the already dismissed deputy head of the Security Police Department.

According to the investigation, a 40-year-old law enforcement officer fraudulently seized 2.7 million UAH of state aid, The award was given to the father of a National Guard servicewoman who died in 2022 while defending Azovstal.

Scheme of misappropriation of funds

Investigators established that the suspect persuaded the victim's relative to invest the money in an apartment in Ivano-Frankivsk.

At the same time:

  • The apartment was registered in the name of the law enforcement officer's mother;

  • After the renovation, he moved in with his family;

  • information about the property was not reflected in the declaration.

The National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption has established false information in the amount of UAH 2.7 million.

Pre-trial restraint and charges

The suspect is in custody with 2 January 2026.

He is charged:

  • fraud on an especially large scale (part 4 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine);

  • legalisation of proceeds of crime (part 1 of Article 209 of the Criminal Code);

  • declaring false information (part 1 of Article 366-2 of the Criminal Code).

In case of proof of guilt, the man faces up to 12 years' imprisonment with confiscation of property.

Cases of misappropriation of social benefits to the families of fallen servicemen are under special scrutiny by law enforcement agencies and society.

It is not only about financial crimes, but also about trust in state institutions during a full-scale war.
