Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Alexander Syrsky believes that the problem of unauthorised abandonment of units (UAW) should be addressed by improving service conditions. According to him, harsh punishments are not an effective method.

Syrsky: the key is the human attitude to the military

The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, said that the solution to the problem of unauthorised desertion of units is to create appropriate conditions for the military at all stages of service. He emphasised that he was not in favour of harsh measures or toughening penalties.

Syrsky stressed that the law is already quite strict against violators. According to him, the main thing is to ensure a human attitude to the mobilised, especially at the stage of work of territorial recruitment centres.

Return of the military and new training conditions

According to the Commander-in-Chief, conditions have been created for the return of the soldiers who had previously left the units. They arrive daily at the reserve battalions, from where they are assigned to their own or new units.

The command is also working to improve conditions in the training centres. To ensure the safety of the military, infrastructure and living conditions are being moved underground. The duration of basic training has been extended to 50 days, and a 14-day adaptive course has been introduced.

Moral obligation and future changes in mobilisation

Syrsky stressed the importance of the moral duty of citizens to defend the country. He urged Ukrainians to fulfil their duty so that after the war they would not be ashamed to look their children in the eye.

Earlier, on 25 March, it became known that the Ministry of Defence was preparing changes to the mobilisation process, as well as separate approaches for assault troops and infantrymen regarding terms of service and financial support.

Context.

The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine commented in an interview with ICTV. He said that the main reason for the JFO was people's fear for their own lives and called for the transition from civilian to military life to be as painless as possible.
