Ukraine has already begun preparations for the next winter due to ongoing threats to its energy infrastructure. Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal urges citizens not to delay preparations for the heating season. The main risks remain the same - the ongoing war and regular attacks by Russia.
Shmygal: Next winter will be difficult
Minister of Energy Denis Shmygal stressed that the country will once again face the heating season in a war zone. The energy system remains under constant threat of attack. The situation may change depending on the intensity of shelling by the Russian army.
Preparing for winter: what the government is doing
The government has already started accumulating gas in underground storage facilities, planning to collect about 14.6 billion cubic metres. The minimum required level is 13.2 bcm. Key tasks include timely signing of import contracts, diversification of supply routes and preparation for the repair campaign.
Key risks for the power system
The main threat to winter survival remains the war and systemic attacks on critical infrastructure. The government hopes to ensure a stable heating season with sufficient gas reserves and the support of its partners.
