Ukraine must end the war without losing its statehood - statement by Venislavsky
People's Deputy Fyodor Venislavsky said that Ukraine could not fight the war indefinitely in the current format and should look for a way to end it.
According to him, the key task is to preserve an independent and sovereign state.
Historical parallels
Venislavsky drew a parallel with the events of the Ukrainian People's Republic, noting that statehood failed to be preserved then because of excessive maximalist aspirations.
In his opinion, modern solutions should take into account historical experience to avoid similar mistakes.
The priority of statehood
The MP emphasised that the main criterion for any political decision should be the
preserving Ukraine's independence;
guaranteeing sovereignty;
ensuring the long-term security of the state.
He stressed the need for political courage to make difficult decisions in wartime.
Context.
The issue of possible ways to end the war is regularly the subject of public and political debate in Ukraine, in particular regarding the balance between security, territorial integrity and international guarantees.
The official position of the state invariably provides for the restoration of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
