Ukraine warned of possible worsening of power outage schedules
Ukraine faces the risk of worsening power outage schedules due to the threat of new Russian attacks on its energy infrastructure. This was announced by the Minister of Energy Denis Shmygal.
According to him, Russian troops can inflict new blows on energy facilities within the next week, which may affect the stability of energy supply in certain regions.
Why restrictions may be tightened
The energy ministry explains that even point damage to key facilities can lead to the need to use outage schedules to balance the system.
They remain particularly vulnerable:
substations and trunk networks
generating capacity
thermal generation facilities
That is why energy companies are preparing for different scenarios.
What is the current situation in the power system?
As of today, Ukraine's power system is operating stably but remains sensitive to massive attacks. Repairs to the damaged facilities are ongoing, and preparations for possible new attacks are underway.
The government and energy companies call on citizens to consume electricity economically during peak hours to reduce the load on the system.
Context.
Since the beginning of the full-scale war, Russia has been regularly attacking Ukraine's energy infrastructure with missiles and drones. This periodically leads to emergency and stabilisation blackouts in various regions.
Ukraine is restoring the damaged facilities with the support of international partners and at the same time strengthening the security of the power grid.
