Russia plans to create a buffer zone along its border with Belarus, particularly in Chernihiv and Sumy regions. Attacks by drones and artillery are expected to increase, especially in adverse weather conditions.

Russia forms a buffer zone in northern Ukraine

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Russia is seeking to create a buffer zone along the border, including parts of Chernihiv and Sumy regions. According to him, this also applies to the Belarusian border, which increases security risks in the north of the country. Ukrainian forces are already strengthening defences in these areas to prevent possible breakthroughs.

Pokrovske direction is the main target of Russians

Zelenskyy stressed that the main attack of Russian troops is expected to be on Pokrovske direction. The occupiers are seeking to capture Druzhkivka, Kostiantynivka and Pokrovsk by the end of April. At the same time, shelling of the frontline territories of Kherson, Dnipro, Nikopol and Odesa continues. The Ukrainian military is preparing for a possible escalation of the situation.

Drones and artillery are Russia's new tactics

According to the president, in case of deteriorating weather conditions, Russians plan to use FPV drones more actively to terrorise civilians and the military. In favourable weather, offensive attempts should be expected. Zelenskyy urged Ukrainians to be prepared for increased attacks and to trust official information.
