New timeline for Russia's offensive in Donbas
Russia has set new deadlines for its troops in Donbas. According to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the occupiers plan to capture Kostiantynivka by 25 April and fully occupy Donetsk region by the end of 2026. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The main goal of the spring offensive is to reach Sloviansk and Kramatorsk. To do this, Russian troops are trying to cover the agglomeration from different sides.
Critical cities and the situation in the south
Kostiantynivka and Lyman remain key to the defence of the region. As long as these cities are under the control of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the enemy's advance towards Sloviansk and Kramatorsk is difficult.
In addition to Donbas, Russia is building up forces at the junction of Dnipro and Zaporizhzhia regions. It is also preparing actions on the Huliaypillia and Orikhiv directions.
Context.
This is not the first time that Russia has changed the timeline for the seizure of Donbas, but the deadline has been postponed several times before. The Ukrainian Armed Forces emphasise the importance of holding strategic cities to deter further enemy advances.
