The Security Service of Ukraine has halted production at the Alchevsk Metallurgical Plant due to targeted drone strikes. The company supplied products to Russia's Uralvagonzavod, which manufactures tanks and howitzers for the Russian army. Critical infrastructure was damaged, paralysing the plant's operations.
SBU strikes at Alchevsk steel plant
The Security Service of Ukraine has conducted a successful drone operation, bringing production at the Alchevsk Iron and Steel Works to a complete halt. According to sources, the attacks damaged blast furnaces, main production shops, distillation columns, gas pipelines and power substations.
The importance of Alchevsk Iron and Steel Works for the Russian military industry
Alchevsk Iron and Steel Works supplied its products to the Russian Uralvagonzavod. It is there that military equipment for the Russian army is manufactured, including modern T-90M Proryv tanks and Msta-S howitzers. The shutdown of the plant could significantly affect the pace of arms production for the Russian army.
Consequences of the strike for the occupiers
The damage to critical infrastructure at the Alchevsk Iron and Steel Works has led to a complete shutdown of production processes. This complicates the logistics of metal supplies for the Russian military-industrial complex and reduces the occupiers' ability to provide the army with modern equipment.
