Iran stores missiles in super-deep bunkers that are inaccessible to US bombs. According to Bild, Washington can confirm the destruction of only part of Iran's arsenal. The rest of the facilities remain unknown to the United States.

The US cannot destroy most of Iran's missiles

According to Bild, the US can confirm the destruction of only about a third of Iran's missile arsenal and infrastructure. The fate of the remaining weapons is unknown. Tehran probably still has a significant stockpile of missiles and may recover some of the damaged or buried missiles after the end of hostilities.

Depth of protection and underground infrastructure

Iran's key missile facilities are located more than 500 metres underground. The most powerful US bunker buster, the GBU-57, can penetrate hard rock only 6-10 metres, making it ineffective against such defences.

Inside the mountain fortress is an automated underground railway system. It connects missile assembly areas, large ammunition depots, and three to ten different exits on different slopes of the mountain.

Mobility and security of launches

The launchers can be quickly deployed to launch missiles and just as quickly hidden underground behind heavy armoured doors. Underground shelters can also house and equip bombers.

Context.

Iran is actively developing underground military infrastructure to protect its strategic weapons. Western experts have repeatedly pointed out the difficulty of destroying such facilities even with the use of modern weapons.
