Chisinau and part of Moldova are left without electricity due to disruptions in Ukraine's power grid

In the capital of Moldova Chisinau - and a number of regions of the country have experienced a blackout. This was reported in the Ministry of Energy of Moldova.

Details of the situation

According to official information, the outages were caused by a large-scale voltage drop in the power grid Ukraine, with which Moldova has synchronised power connections. This resulted in automatic protective outages in the Moldovan grid.

The power supply has been cut in Chisinau and some of the country's settlements. Power engineers are working to stabilise the system and gradually restore power supply.

Moldova remains vulnerable to fluctuations in the regional energy system amid Russia's regular attacks on Ukrainian critical infrastructure. Such incidents have repeatedly led to emergency outages in neighbouring power grids.
