Poland should think about its own nuclear weapons - Navrotsky
Poland should consider creating its own nuclear weapons as it is on the verge of an armed conflict. This was stated by Karol Navrotskyi.
According to him, the security situation in the region forces Warsaw to think strategically and prepare for the worst-case scenarios. Navrotsky stressed that, in his opinion, such a step should be taken with respect for international norms and procedures.
«We need to act now»
The politician noted that Poland should start working in this direction in order to have real deterrence tools.
«It is clear what Russia's aggressive, imperial stance towards Poland is» Navrotsky said, explaining the need for a tougher approach to national security.
Security context in the region
The statement came against the backdrop of Russia's war against Ukraine and rising tensions on NATO's eastern flank. Poland is one of the Alliance's key countries in the region and has consistently advocated for strengthening defence capabilities.
At the same time, the creation of its own nuclear weapons would mean a radical change in the country's defence doctrine and would cause serious debate both within the EU and NATO.
Possible consequences
Experts note that such statements could be a signal to the allies about the need for additional security guarantees for Poland. At the same time, they stress that any steps in the field of nuclear weapons are strictly regulated by international law and non-proliferation treaties.
