Lithuania's Minister of Transport and Communications Juras Taminskas has announced his intention to call on the EU to abandon daylight saving time. Lithuania plans to use its presidency of the EU Council in 2027 to promote this initiative.

Lithuania's position on seasonal time

Minister of Transport and Communications of Lithuania Yuras Taminskas emphasised the need to abolish seasonal time change in the European Union. Taminskas also noted that he is taking the initiative to end this practice and plans to unite the Baltic States around a common goal. He stressed that Lithuania's presidency of the EU Council in 2027 is an opportunity for real action in this direction.

Plans for discussion in the EU

The minister said that he plans to discuss the issue of cancelling seasonal time with ministers from other EU member states in the near future. According to him, this will help develop a common position to further promote the initiative.
