Party of the current Prime Minister Robert Holob «The Svoboda Movement won 29 seats, or 28.6% votes. The right-wing conservative opposition, led by former Prime Minister Janez Janscha was only one mandate behind.
No political force was able to win the required 46 seats to form a majority in the parliament. This means that the future government will depend on agreements with smaller parties.
The coalition's prospects
Robert Holob has already announced his readiness to form a new cabinet. He stressed his intention to continue the country's liberal course and support for Ukraine.
However, coalition negotiations could be difficult. Holb's main opponent, Jánez Janszá, an ally of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, has almost equal support in parliament.
