Embezzlement at Trypillia CHPP: suspicions of UAH 50 million

Law enforcement officers have uncovered a large-scale scheme to embezzle budget funds during repairs at the Trypillia Thermal Power Plant. This was reported by the National Police of Ukraine.

Details of the scheme

According to the investigation, the deal was organised by the heads of contractors who carried out construction and installation work at heat generating facilities.

Investigators found that the contractors purchased materials through controlled companies, artificially inflating their cost by about 30% from the market price.

As a result, law enforcement officers estimate that more than UAH 50 million of public funds were misappropriated.

Suspicions of the defendants

Law enforcement officers have already served six participants in the scheme with a notice of suspicion.

They are charged with misappropriation of budget funds on a particularly large scale. If proven guilty, the suspects face up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.

Context.

Trypillia TPP is one of the key energy facilities in central Ukraine. Amid the war and attacks on the energy infrastructure, the issue of efficient use of funds for its restoration is under special attention of the state.

The investigation is ongoing and law enforcement officers are identifying all those involved in the scheme.
