Vice President of the United States JD Vance said that the current negotiations on Ukraine have actually turned into a bargaining over several square kilometres of territory. According to him, the price of such a confrontation is hundreds of thousands of lives. He stressed that both sides should think about the real consequences of the war.

Negotiations as a struggle for territory

J.D. Vance stressed that the current negotiation process is losing its strategic sense and is narrowing down to discussing control over small areas of territory. This approach, he said, does not correspond to the scale of losses and risks.

He noted that in fact, we are talking about the exchange of lives for minor geographical gains, which raises serious questions about the feasibility of continuing hostilities in the current format.

The price of war is hundreds of thousands of lives

Vance drew attention to the human cost, which continues to grow. According to him, both Ukrainians and Russians are paying an extremely high price for every kilometre of territory.

“Is it worth the loss of hundreds of thousands of additional young Russians and Ukrainians? Obviously not,” he said.

The politician stressed that further escalation would only deepen the crisis without guaranteeing a strategic outcome.

“It takes two to make a difference”

The US vice president also stressed that any compromise is possible only with the participation of both sides of the conflict.

According to him, even if there is political will on the one hand, negotiations cannot move forward without mutual readiness for solutions.

Context.

J.D. Vance's statements were made against the backdrop of ongoing diplomatic contacts on a possible settlement of the war. Territorial issues remains one of the key and, at the same time, most difficult issues in the negotiations.
