The State Bureau of Investigation has detained the head of the military medical commission in Berehove, Zakarpattia. According to journalist Vitaliy Glagola, the official organised a scheme to sell certificates of unfitness for service, receiving almost half a million dollars in bribes.
Detention of the head of the VLC in Beregovo
The State Bureau of Investigation detained Vladimir Pauk, head of the military medical commission at Berehove hospital. The operation took place in Zakarpattia as part of an investigation into corruption schemes in medical institutions.
According to the journalist Vitaliia Glagola, The official received bribes for issuing conclusions on his unfitness for military service. The amount of the unlawful benefit, according to preliminary data, reached almost USD 500,000.
Scheme for issuing fictitious certificates
The investigation established that the head of the VLC organised a scheme that allowed evading mobilisation through forged medical reports. His actions are classified as corrupt and have caused significant damage to the country's defence capability.
It is known that the participants in the scheme received certificates of unfitness for military service in exchange for large sums of money. Other details of the investigation have not yet been disclosed.

The SBI did not provide any further details about other possible participants in the scheme or further steps in the case. As of today, Volodymyr Pauk has been detained and investigative actions are ongoing. This case is another example of fighting corruption in the field of military medicine.
