The SBU and the National Police detained two people who were preparing an assassination attempt on the Hero of Ukraine, Major General of the Defence Forces. According to the investigation, the Russians tried to organise the murder of the military man in Zhytomyr region through recruited drug addicts.
SBU and National Police prevent contract killing
The Security Service of Ukraine, together with the National Police, prevented another attempted assassination attempt by Russia against the Ukrainian military. According to the agency, two residents of Korostyshiv, Zhytomyr region, were recruited by the Russian side to carry out the contract killing of the Hero of Ukraine, Major General of the Defence Forces. According to the information SBU, The perpetrators conducted additional reconnaissance near the military's home and waited for instructions from the Russian curator.
The criminals were waiting to receive the geolocation of the cache, where they were to take the firearms for the attack. Thanks to the prompt actions of law enforcement officers, the killers were detained before they received the weapons and started to commit the crime.
Russian trace and recruitment of perpetrators
According to the investigation, the attempt was organised by representatives of Russian special services. They engaged two drug addicts from Korostyshiv to carry out the crime. It was these individuals who monitored the Major General's house, recorded his movements and collected information to prepare the attack.
The task of the perpetrators was to obtain the exact coordinates of the weapons cache from the Russian curator. After that, they were supposed to carry out an attempt on the military man's life. However, thanks to the work of the SBU and the National Police, the crime was prevented at the preparation stage.
Responsibility for detainees
The detainees are in custody. Under the current legislation, they face life imprisonment with confiscation of property. Investigative actions are ongoing, all the circumstances of the case and possible accomplices of the organisers of the attempt are being established.
