A night of hell in Kyiv: the number of dead and injured is rising rapidly

On the night of 2 July 2026, Russian troops launched one of the largest-scale attacks on Kyiv, causing widespread destruction and casualties. According to the emergency services, 11 people were killed and a further 34 were injured.

Widespread destruction in Kyiv

On the night of 2 July 2026, Kyiv became the scene of one of the largest-scale attacks by Russian forces. The enemy deployed an unprecedented amount of weaponry, including «Shahed»-type rocket-powered UAVs, ballistic missiles and hypersonic systems. According to the emergency services, the shelling caused serious damage to residential buildings and civilian infrastructure at more than 30 locations.

As of the morning of 2 July The deaths of 11 people have been confirmed, including both women and men. A further 34 people sustained injuries of varying severity, including at least one child. State Emergency Service rescue workers managed to quickly free and rescue 16 people from under the rubble and from trapped premises. Medical staff hospitalised 32 of the injured, whilst two were treated at the scene.

The aftermath of the attack in areas of Kyiv

Shevchenkivskyi district

This area suffered some of the most severe damage. A fire broke out on the shared roof of a 7-storey residential block and a hotel building. A five-storey building was destroyed, and fires broke out in another residential block covering an area of 300 square metres, as well as in a three-storey non-residential building. An emergency medical services substation was damaged, with five staff members injured.

Darnytskyi district

As a result of the shelling, a 5-storey and a 9-storey residential block were partially destroyed; in the 9-storey block, floors 1 to 6 were completely destroyed. The upper floors of a 16-storey building and private homes were also damaged.

Pechersk district

Debris damaged a nine-storey residential block, and a serious fire broke out covering an area of around 200 square metres. State Emergency Service personnel rescued one person from the scene of the incident.

Holosiivskyi district

A fire broke out on the service floor of a 16-storey residential block in this area.

Obolon district

A major fire has been reported on the premises of a storage site. Members of the public took the injured person to the nearest fire station themselves, where firefighters provided emergency treatment.

Sviatoshynskyi district

Damage to two private residential buildings has been documented; in one of them, people were trapped during the attack.

Desnianskyi district

Enemy shelling damaged a nine-storey residential block.

Response and recovery

Until the consequences have been dealt with large-scale shelling More than 570 rescue workers and over 125 units of specialist equipment from the State Emergency Service have been deployed. Emergency response centres are being set up near the main impact sites to assist those affected. Information on the extent of the damage is being constantly updated.
